1. Except premature, what are the other possible causes of neonatal espiratory distress syndrome? 2. What is the different pathogenesis in neonate versus adult respiratory distress syndrome? 3. How to differentiate the cardiogenic versus non-cardiogenic (like from RDS) pulmonary edema? Thanks!

 Among other causes of neonatal RDS include fetal asphyxia/hypoxia. neonatal RDS is due to deficient production of surfactant while the fetus is inutero. Adult RDS is due to acute lung injury so that normal exchange of gases cannot take place, leading to hypoxemia and distress which may not improve with oxygen therapy. in cardiogenic pulmonary edema, signs of heart failure, and increased pulmonary venous pressure may be noted;which may not be seen with non-cardiogenic etiologies.
