HIV pos pt, you can’t give which vaccine?

MMR Td pneumovac Varicella

  #2

CANNOT give varicella.

Only live vaccine you can give is MMR, because the disease is worse than what the vaccine could do, and also to keep them from spreading disease.

  #3

I'll go with Td .
varicella immunoglobulins are available to be given to immunocompromised.MMR and pneumococcal vaccines are also given to HIV +ve.

  #4

I too think its Td

http://pedclerk.bsd.uchicago.edu/immunizations.ht...

  #5

The answer has to be varicella...why would Td be contraindicated?

From the website listed above: "Live vaccines (OPV, MMR, Varicella) are not to be given to immunocompromised patients or pregnant women."

  #6

from the site above :

Live vaccines (OPV, MMR, Varicella) are not to be given to immunocompromised patients or pregnant women.
The IPV should be used if the patient will be in contact with an immunocompromised individual.
HIV patients should not receive OPV. Varicella can be given to Class I HIV+ with >25% CD4 count. MMR may be given to patients with HIV

Nobody has explained why it might be Td that you CANT give to HIV+?

  #8

It has to be varicella that you cant give...all the others are mentioned here.

Varicella can be given to HIV patients.
Td can also be given.
Pneumococal v can also be given and ofcourse it must begiven to every HIV PT.
MMR is given to patiens with asymptomatic HIV but should never be given symptomatic patients.
This is the single right answer for this Q.

  #15

but Q didn't say whether pt is symptomatic or not ?

  #16

It doesnt matter...the only live vaccine you can give an HIV(+) Px is MMR. Varicella is live vaccine and the standard vaccine cannot be given.

  #17

Why is there confusion..someone says varicella can be given someone says it cannot be given.

Need to find it out .

  #18

thats why i want doc4mindia to give us the answer

According to kaplan, Varicella vaccine can be considered in both moderate or severe immunocompromised patients; but MMR only for the former group; OPV never is consider for either.

  #20

so its MMR

  #21

varicella is the answer
