This is stated on kaplan IM, what is the retional for tetracycline can sclreose effusion? thanks! :?

tetracyclines r irritants...everywhere...
say GIT mucosa also...their irritant property stimulates fibrosis

ye,Tetracycline is an irritable substance that can obliterate the pleural space by creating an inflammatory fibrinous adhesion in both the parietal and visceral peura.

everything (i mean almost every medication) is irritable in GI mucosa, tetracyclines prhaps have some differnt property which makes it irritant in pleural space.

yep they r irritant, also used for some cases of hydrocele
