30 Y/O sexually active woman presents with a mucopurulent vaginal discharge. On pelvic examination, the cervix appears reddened around the os, but not erosions or mass lesions are present. Pap smear show numerous neutrophils but no dysplastic cells. A cervical biopsy demonstrates a marked follicular cervicitis. The most common infectious agent that produces these finding is ?

a. chlamydia trachomatis
b. neisseia gonorrhoeae
c. candida albicans
d. trichomonas vaginalis
e. herpes simplex virus

i do too. coz Chlam is the most common...but can mimic N. Ghon.

what's follicular vaginitis? why it's not N. gonorrhea? no bacteria found?

i guess c.t. leads to a cervicitis that is "follicular" in nature. i had to look it up. who knew?!

neutrophils in absense of bacteria..intracellular organisms..thats clamidiya
gonorroea may coexist with clamidiya
but the lab findings seems to be more suggestive
of clamidiya
