i ALWAYS get confused as to treatment for different kinds of arrhythmics.

in one book i read certain drugs works on certain kind of arrhythmias & in another there is the opposite drugs for the other type of arrhytmias that were not suppose to treat with . Eg.in Kaplan pahrmavology book and 1st aid has different treatment for the same arrhythmias .. wot m i doin wrong here ?

can anyone elaborate once & for all on this , different types of arrhytmias and their treatments .

well you see as you mentioned there are several choices for arrythmias and there is no THE SINGLE ONLY DOC and lots of them are jolly jokers and are used for everything(e.g Amiodarone) but some however are contraindicated and lets not leave the SEs. here goes what i figured out , if anyone corrects it, you're welcome  :
I/A : good for almost ALL (watch out for Bradycardia(Quinidine) and others SE)

I/B: perfect for VT/VF in emergency (bind Inactive Na-ch. and dissociate FAST) also Digoxin Tox. and "phenytoin" also for -Congenital short QT-

I/C: their benefit mostly comes from their B-blocking activity so ind. for SUPRAVENT. ARRYTHMIAs (SE. and Contraind. similar to B-blockers)

II:like above for any SUPRAVENT. arrythmias especially "ESMOLOL" which is pretty short acting and ideal for SVPT

IIIsadNOT PURE III,WE WOULD DIE IF OTHER RECEPTORS WERENT ALSO MANIPULATED BY THESE DRUGS) jolly jockers esp. "Amiadarone" (acts on ALL Receptors others work on : K,B,Alpha,NA,M)
good for absolutely EVERYTHING (BROADEST SPECTRUM!!) but with lots lots of fancy SE(hypo/hypethyroidism, pulm fibrosis, skin dircoloration........)
"Sotalol" also like B-blockers
"bretylium" not used much(rapid resistance) only in ER

IV: Contraind.!!!! Ventricular arrythmias (shorten the Repol.)
so what is left is Supravent. (NEVER COMBINE Ca-Blockers+B-blockersc !!)

V: depends on the agent.

i hope that helped abit, if anyone has more to say now is the time :icon_salut:

hey sorry, i made a stupid mistake, Quinidine causes Tachycardia(exceptionally) by :
1-Depressing Vagal tone
2- Vasodilation and reflex tachy.

my apologies

Also, I remember the two most 'arrythmogenic' drugs (those that are likely to cause arrythmias) are quinidine and sotalol, I believe.
