The prevalence of type2 diabetus mellitus is about 10% in a given community, where there is 30% risk of obesity. What is the probability of getting a person with diabetus and/or obesity in that community?
a)0.4
b)0.03
c)0.388
d)0.2
e)0.3

probability to get diab. and obesity = .1* .3 = .03

probability of prson to get diab. or obesity= (.1+.3)-.03 =0.37

Agreed. Should be 0.37

  #4

could you explain?

  #5

THTAS RIGHT..ITS 0.37...this is a explained in kaplan notes

Hi LANC1975 ,
acc to probability rules we can solve this
dm and obesity are two diff disease so prob of getting a dm or obese is .3+.1=.4
but now we have to calculate dm pt with obesity......so this means our diseases are not exclusive or it means the disease is mutually overlapping at some point.....so our previous calculation is inflated as we have counted pts with obes and dm twice.....to correct it we subtract .3*.1 =.o3 from .4 that is =.37
I hope it make sense.....
you have to learn both rules

Hey guys, just wondering, if the correct answer is 0.37, which of the options provided should we go for? Do we just round it up and pick 0.4?

  #9

smiling face they gave us 10% and 30% - 1 significant figure so the answer should me 1 significant figure - 0.4
But who knows what are these guys who made this test were thinking about
