bilateral cleft lip due to failure of fusion of intermaxillary seg(compose of 2 medoinasal septum) with maxillary process.
cleft lip is due failure of fusion of maxillary process with medionasal septum.
cleft palate :when palatine shelves fail to fuse with other or with primary plate

Cleft lip is more common in males; cleft palate is more common in females.
Cleft palate is more common in females because the palatal processes close 1wk later in females than in males
