I know liver biopsy is confirmatory test .But here gold standard test is asked.Donno :roll:

I am not very clear about the differerce between "comfirmatory versus gold standard test". Please tell me about it.
Just feel the definitive diagnosis should be biopsy. Let see the answer given by bobby. 8)

Gold standard: liver biopsy!!!
demonstrate hepatic siderosis and a quantitative increase in liver content. (it is also a confirmatory test)
another Q.
Which of the following is not useful in the diagnosis of hemocromatosis.
a)Increase serum Fe greater than 300 mg/dl
b)Inc transferrin saturation greater than 50%
c)Inc serum ferritin and RBC ferririn
d)Inc urinary Fe excretion (greater than 2 mg/24h) after administration of deferoxamine
e)MRI when Fe content in liver in significantly high
f)Pt with salmon colored urine with familiarity of hemocromatosis and no other clinical condition
