Hi Ahdy...

I just prayed for you...don't worry how much ever u can give your best..and rest He will take care..because I know He never burdens anybody beyond its capacity..He knows all our capacity and capability..He will fill the rest!!

Just ask for His help ..before u start anything..believe it..you will be done with it!!

For me yesterday, nothing happened other than taking care of things other than my studies, seems people miss me , can't resisit their calls..ha..for them its all a biig waiting for myself to get back to normal routines..

But no regrets...I know they all r praying for me..expecting my day in parallel with me..

So here I go....before my lids shutts off ..I should be done with it!!

today's been an alright day. woke up after 5hr of sleep, and i was exhauseted. did 50Q qbank...didn't do soo good...makes me worried about taking my test at 7am..i better get some good sleep the night before. then took 2 hour nap. then did 50Q from Rapid Review for USMLE 1. then did 50Q from qbank, and i'm now review the questions from Rapid review. The reason for this post, I gotta tell ya, is that i've noticed the rapid review Q's come almost right out of this lectures. it's kind of crazy. i listen to a lecture at night, then the next day...the same concept repeats...and not just randomly, but word for work what he said. I wonder if he wrote these or he just edited it. regardless, if ya'll have the time, i think it's worth. the only problem is it takes SOOOO LOONG to go through the explanations, 2-3 hours for me, at least (IF i'm working hard, non-stop). but i'm sacrificing memorizing things to do this....and i really hope it's worth it. i guess we'll see. thank you for your continued prayers.

alright...i just rescheduled my test for 9am at a different site that's an hour away because I don't think I can wake up at 6 and be fully functional by 7.

2nd, i think i've decided to abandon Qbank. At this point, the yield isn't very much and I still have to read FA pharm and physio for the first time, and try to memorize everything (what have i been doing with my time???). I might do 50Qs a day on pharm, because i'm pretty weak in that right now, and i'd like to improve it. i think, though, that i'm still going to try to finisht eh Goljan questions, because they're high yield (i feel like) and they're damn good. plus, i've never seen them before, but i've seen 1/2 of kaplan....if anybody thinks this is a terrible idea, let me know. i was inspired by nuprin's story and was trying to finish the rest of the 1000qs that i have...but i just can't. i have to memorize.

hey guys,

so it pretty much took me all day to read that renal chapter in brs. so i'm kind of on the same page as you ahdy...this is ridiculous...i kind of want to quit it and start reviewing FA other subjects or something coz i need to use those good day hours better. i am trying to squeeze in a goljan audio lecture or two every night--starting w/systems and if i have time listen to injury/inflamm etc.

thanks namf for your reply...i just have to get more focused i geuss thats the main problem, esp w/the physio. took someo f those physio renal questions today on qbank and kind of got blown away...will try again tomorrow!
what stinks is that i hear its a pretty good size of the test. i'm just goin to do FA for anat/neuro/embryo (maybe some HY neuro) and also biochem. i have to get thru all that by like sunday, so that i can start micro on monday. this is ambitious for me, as i said i got 2 chapters of brs done in 2 days...hopefully i do better tomorrow....

good luck studying

Ahdy,i dont see any problem!
Keep doing..do understand the basic concepts. It will help u the most.
And yes ....believe in yourself!
U have got lot of potential...u might realise all those hidden one in preperation this exam
Its good that u scheduled the test at 9am...even i was worried about the same thing,so i also had preffered to schedule it in the centre having 9 am timing.
Good luck!!!!
Sheffield...
u have got time...but manage ur time well.Or in last days,u will be in my position. So take lesson from my experience.Speed up..there are lots of sourses to use.The more intense u will be..the more sources or q banks u will be done with!Which ofcourse will boost ur confidence!
Good luck!

hey ahdy! so much to comment on... lessee if i can remember it all...

consider getting a hotel the night before that's close to your site so you don't waste time getting tired from driving.

i say at least do a bunch of quick qbank qs a couple of days before your exam to get your mind in quick exam mode and to accustom your body/mind to reading and clicking and moving on. goljan qbank is a great idea. honestly, ahdy, you won't encounter stuff on the exam (with the amount you've been preparing) that you're gonna wish you'd spent more time memorizing. acc. to everyone's experience i've read (esp. the ones who did well), it's almost entirely conceptual. do read FA but don't worry so much about the memorizing, bc it really will come to you during your exam. i TOTALLY know how you feel bc in my last days i was stressing hardcore about all the stuff i had to fit in, but 1) it didn't matter bc consistent preparation is more important than last minute cramming and 2) the two most helpful things i did in my last week were listening to goljan and doing qbank. i'm not saying what you're doing is a terrible idea or anything, bc different things work for diff people, but just fyi.

elm, keep working hard!!! you're gonna do great. keep up the positive attitude and your faith!

oh, some mnemonics for helminths (they're dumb, but they helped me):
1) "My sister (cysticercosis) won a prize (prazinquantel) for climbing a tree (trematode)--what a fluke (fluke worms)!"
2) "The tree (trematode) that was the paragon of the west (paragonimus westerni) was cloned by China (clonorchis sinesis) by fluke--this caused a schism (schistosomas)."
3) "Niclo (as in someone's name-->niclosamide) has a tapeworm."
4) "I've been buying leashes (leishmanias) like crazy. I need to be anti-money times 5 (pentavalent antimony)."
5) "Primarily (primaquine), they like to sleep (latent hypnozoite) in my lively (P. vivax) oval (P. ovale) liver."
6) "At night, furtively (nifurtimox), people cruise (T. Cruzi) and kiss (reduviid bug)."
7) picture Saruman from LOTR casting a sleeping sickness (a la Wizard of Oz) on Frodo et. al. -->Suramin is tx for Af. Sleeping sickness.
8) "A pyromaniac (pyrantel), Oscar (ascaris) is finally pinned (pinworm) and hooked (hookworm) for the murder of Pam (pamoate)."

probly easier to memorize the darned things, but i still remember the stuff bc of these weird sentences. feel free to modify.

thanks for the sentiment, docarjun! smiling face i think first aid is sufficient for micro as long as you really know it and understand it on a macro level (i.e., you understand the broad organizations of things).

okay, i think i covered all i wanted to say. nice to "see" you guys again! you're all in my prayers.

  #108

good pnemonics, but at this point, i can't make sense of them. that's what i mean about i need to memorize ). thanks for your advice though. i think i'll take part of it and do maybe like 50qs in the morning just to be in the mindframe. i noticed when i stopped qbank a little while back and i got back to it after a week, my score fell just because i wasn't used to it anymore. kinda weird.

anyway...i have a question for some reason, i can't get winamp to produce sound, but i can get real player to do it. i was wondering if you knew some way to speed up real player (like your previous post about winamp).

thanks, and welcome back.

a2

p.s. don't listen to your friends )

  #109

i don't think so with realplayer bc it's a crappy piece of commercial software that you can't modify. lemme see if i can figure out why your winamp won't produce sound...

double click your sound thingy on the right side of your bottom bar. make sure that both volume control and wave are high...

from the forum:
Check to see if the volume slider in the main Winamp window is set at zero.
If so, turn it up to the desired level and all your problems will go away

You can also try "alt setting mode" in WaveOut Plugin Config
Try with or without "Volume Control : enable"
With "alt setting mode" only, Winamp should work independently of the Windows Volume Control
With "enable" unchecked, you'll no longer be able to control volume from within Winamp.
The combination of the two could be what you're all looking for.

if you can, get your gf to do this for you. so's are indispensible right now. you don't have time for this crap. smiling face

Nuprin, I'll spend like 15min trying it out. If it doesn't work, that's ok. I have still like 17 lects left...5 tomorrow, and 4 everyday, so ithought it'd be easier to do if i could speed it up. but if i'm going to spend more time doing that it'd take just to listen to it, then i'll just listen to it. but thanks for your suggestions, i'll try 'em tomorrow. riht now, my eyes are burning. gotta get to bed.

sorry Lix, I promised them to a friend. But try the following site. I actually got a few things from there, at really good deals (like the set of underground clinical vignettes...which i haven't touched yet---for 90). It's just students.

I hope today is productive.

ok. so now winamp works. i downloaded /install the chronotron. and i followed the txt. So i selected the chronotron. but i can't get the chronotron windown to come up (i've got winamp 5.03). i can't seem to find where it is (i've looked through the all the file options) ...but it is selected as a plug-in. any thoughts Nuprin?

  #116

go under plugins (to get to it, you can go under visualizations and then click select plugin). in the left bar, click dsp effects. make sure chronotron is installed and lemme know.

good luck!

also, lix, after i get my passing score (don't want to jinx it!) i'll be willing to sell the books i bought at the price i paid (i bought almost all used). where are you?

  #117

yea...it's installed "Chronotron Plugn for winamp [dsp_chronotron.dll]". but when i click on "configure" at the bottom, it doesn't do anything. maybe it's becaue it's alreayd confgured.

is there supposed to be a window that pops up or somthing when i play a song?

  #118

the window should pop up when you open winamp. hmm.... lemme look into it and get back to you. i have to reinstall it bc my license has run out.

  #119

thanks Nuprin. don't waste too much time on it though.

  #120

Nuprin, I downloaded a different one (which is free and doesn't expire!). This one works...don't worry about trying to figure it out. ( I'm sorry for wasting your time).
