why can we never give folate to a pt with B12 deficiency?

This is true. High-dose folate will mask the neurological symptoms, and it could potentially exacerbate the condition, causing the loss of what B12 is left (similar to the way dextrose in an alcoholic can use up the remaining thiamine).

agree with everybody. Just to add, it would correct the B12 deficiency anemia!!
