What ia the treatment of a solitary (single) metastatic brain lesion?

  #2

In a pt. who is otherwise well, with only single cerebral metastasis, it may be possible to remove the lesion followed by irradiation.
Some even choose only irradiation as the treatment..........
But for wide spread metastasis, as u know, it is just palliative treatment...........

A patient has a large 6.0cm X 4.5cm low grade astrocytoma in the left temperol lobe, what form of treatment would you offer and what is the prognosis for survival.

  #6

Low Grade Astrocytoma

Symptomatic: Surgical resection (as far as feasible)
Asymptomatic/Minimal symptoms: bx +/- surgery
Post-op radiotherapy (depending on choice of tx center and completeness of resection)

No role of chemo so far.
