hi roxanita,

thanks a lot to u for ur support which made me possible to do this...
my time schedule was not a fixed one and week ends i hardly study...

5-6 hrs a day for 5 months excluding week ends was my schedule.
i read kaplan 2001 live lecture notes....listened to goljan lectures..very useful..
i worked out questions from kaplan online q bank and q book thoroughly..I also worked questions from NMS,few from B.S.S.

do as many Qs as possible...that always helps...and last 2 weeks i revised kaplan notes once completely...i read FA (first aid)..but i couldn't remember all facts in it..

exam tests our confidence so it is must that we keep ourself calm in last two weeks...only revise in last two weeks..do not read new stuff then...

i write notes , when i read....and revised that in last two weeks...along with kaplan notes...that was very helpful..

congratulations usmleasr!!!
U did it!!!
i am giving my exam this month end.i also studied from kaplan 2001 material.Doing questions from online qbank and kaplan q book.how many days u did the questions?
what was ur schedule for question solving?
need ur advise or anybody who can please advise.

  #4

hi santhosh,
u have plenty of time...this last 20 days r crucial..to sum up all ur efforts...so , do minimum of 100 qs with explantions....or if u have more questions remaining in online q bank then ..do 150 qs /day...along with reading explanations also revise the text when ever u get time...

i am an img..so i don't have many of my UG books here...so i used kaplan for all subjects...for patho ..i made notes while listening to goljan lectures......stay calm the week of exam...that is most important....
ALL THE BEST.

Congratulations for that great score and as you say usmleasr:
Kaplan notes, Goljan and lots of MCQs from Q-bank, NMS and BSS are your recipe for succeed? I better start doing your recipe.

Great score, enjoy your success usmleasr,
Best of luck for you,

Valentina.

thank you for ur avise.i will follow it.
i am also an img.dont have my ug books with me and reading kaplan as a only sourse of study books.
keep giving advise.... its inspiring for the one like me.
Have u done the online q bank of kaplan?how much you used to score?Because the scores are worrying me a lot.
Thank you again!

  #8

hi santhosh,

at the end of q bank my cumulative score was around 82% i think..
but in tests i had lot of 60s and 70s too with some subjects like beh sci ..
but other subjects compensated...once u finish q bank..revise qs as much as possible..to retain whatever u did..

rather than doing many things new..keep revising...which builds our basic concepts..

hi Valentina,

I did few qs from BSS and NMS.. i couldn't do m any..but if u have time work it up...work up as many qs as possible..that helps rather than simply reading the text..
ALL THE BEST

Hey..i need a real help from somebody.
I am planning to take exam this month end.i am reading kaplan stuff again and again..just keeping revising.but what i found is revision is kind of bored and i am slow in it.But the problem is i am still not daring to do questions only.something threatens me while solving and again i go ack to studies. And i think its never finishing.
i tried to solve kaplan q bank..but was shocked with the scores.
please advise me.
I know i am not doing well..but wanna do it.

  #10

hi DOCARJUN,

do the qbank....even if u take 50 %only don't worry...stop there and see why u made those mistakes..with out qs revision is boring....
don't feel bad...exam is lot easier than tough q banks we come across..

my father advise me that..IF WE PREPARE FOR TOUGH THINGS ONLY WE CAN DO EASY THINGS IN EXAM....becos of our anxiety..we feel easy qs tough in exam...so keep working qs also ...50-100/day...ALL THE BEST..

  #11

Thanks for inspiring me!
i am keeping myself positive ...will do questions as many as i can.
i am just convincing myself that i shd give the exam on my decided date in last week of this month.i hope i am not making mistake and not underestimating the exam.
i will do as much as i can.
do u think somebody can still do it?

  #12

congratulations for you score really great :icon_salut:
i am an IMG and it's gonna be my second attempt for the step 1 and i am really scare to fail again.i was planing to take the exam on june but i could't(like you said familly responsabilities)so i did an extension until septembre. For know i am almost done whith the first lecture ,did some Q book qs ,my question is should i read the notes again before doing the Q book or should i do more qs from other topics ... i am planing to take by august and i am afraid about the time....????please give some advices,i will be really thankfull.

  #13

hi mouhi221,

till august , u have lot of time..u can do it...do as many qs...and revise text for doubts..simply revising may not help with out qs...

do qs and revise notes side by side...say 75-100qs /day...after u have done with .. read the notes for questions where u went wrong...

explanation for answers read well...if u r doing q bank..take time in reading explanation after ur timed test...if u have done mistake ,then analyze why u went wrong...
all the best

hi usmleasr,
lol
I have Q about organ based approach or subject based approach icon_scratch ......I found both ways good, but want to follow only one? So,what do u think....which one is better??
?
thanks !

  #17

hi ,actually i need to know the same thing,im taking step for the second time, igot 68% last time.i was so depressed that it took me mnth & a half to get back to the books.i did systems last time, this time too im not sure if to go system vice or discipline vice.if someone can tell me whats better?also where to do physiology from?right now im using kaplan organ systems only.
thanks, waiting for guidance.

  #18

i dont' know what the best approach is myself. but listening to Goljan ties everything together (check previous posts from other people about how to get goljan audio for free).

for physio, i really like BRS Physio. If you get Firs Aid..that'll tell you what most people think about each subject, what's best for it, etc. kaplan is usually not rated because i think a lot of people just got with getting individual books for each subject. good luck.

  #19

hi,

integrated organ system wise approach helped me to cover , anat, physio and patho....for behsci, and biochem i did subjectwise..

yeah , goljan lectures helps u to integrate things ...

do questions randomly...(so that u won't get bored)..and read side by side..All the best

Hi usmleasr,

I read your experience with Step 1, I wish I were you and be done with step 1 sad I am planning to take step 1 at the end of November, do you think is enough time?
When I am reading Kaplan notes I find myself very impatient trying to finish as soon as I can and then I get in panic
How long did you take for your first review of all kaplan Notes? How many review did you do in total of kaplan Notes?

I will appreciate your reply,

Thanks.
