Congrats, you are my hero! I have a quick question for you. I only get 6 weeks off between 2nd and 3rd year, so with a few days for vacation that gives me a total of 5 weeks to study (it's been 3 already - only 2 weeks to go!) I've given myself the last 7 days to review and really bump up the questions, maybe 200 per day or so. However, I have been doing Qbank on and off since March, and I have used up all the questions. Of course, I don't remember the questions that I answered three months ago, so I figured I would just start over and try to go through all of them again. The problem is, now I really second-guess myself, and I'm getting questions wrong that I got right the first time! Now I'm really worried - I don't know if I've gotten dumber or maybe subconsciously I've become suspicious of every question and I'm ignoring my first hunch. My question is this - should I keep re-doing Qbank, to try to relearn all the details, or should I maybe go to a new source of questions (NMS, BSS, etc?) I would really appreciate your advice!

Congrats again on a great score

hi mnp11,

from day 1 of preparation...i was getting 70%...and at the end also i had similar scores....what it means is ..reading clarifies some concepts...confuses some others smiling face ...
so don't worry it happens with all of us..it really needs our hard work ..to improve every 5% after reaching 70-80%...
now with two weeks left...i would prefer u to go thro calmly the q bank again...after every 50 qs just see what made u to think otherwise..for the ans.. this would help u better than going to new stuff...
concepts r same ..so u won't miss anything...
ALL THE BEST :icon_thumb:

hi anju,

i did usmle cd imonth before exam ..my score in that was 90%..
kaplan q bank was around 82% (cumulative score)...i didn't do simulated or NBME..
about antomy...not all but few important muscles u know orgin...like u know common flexor orgin, extensor orgin....muscles attaching to important bony prominences like...corocoid process..acromion and to ant sup and inf iliac spine like that...
know all important nerve courses and effects of lesions...like median , ulnar, radial, axillary (brachial plexus in toto) as well as lumbar plexus).
sciatic and common peroneal nerve..

u should know gross details..which is going to be practically relavant..not all minute details..
for histo..know lining epithelium for all sites..
for embryo..know derivatives of each embryonic layer like ecto endo and meso also neural crest cells..also brachial arch derivatives..(pouch and cleft also)
in summary...know all clinically relavant facts...
All the Best..

hi anju,

score of 80 in patho sounds good..i did randomly..not subjectwise..
as u have limited time do more of CNS, and CVS(systemwise approach)....beh sci is also useful..becos q bank has more of doc-patient relationship...do revise topics of acid -base balance..ALL THE BEST..

If you want to sell any books let me know as well.

hi,

for patho , i wish i had my robbins with me...since i didn't have all my books hee...i used, hand book robbins and listened to goljan lectures..
i wish i had a teacher like him in my UG...i used to make notes while listening and used robbins hand book and my notes for final revision...

for all others, like epidemiology, biostatistics i used only kaplan..(also for immunology)..All the best for all of u ..

hi usmleaser,that is great score...
Ihave just started preparing for step 1....have gone thru some Qbook but could not answer many questions...please guide me whether i should complete studying one subject first and then do Qbook or just go thru Qbook from begining and studying simultaniously

  #36

Hi usmleaser,
Congrats on your excelent score!!!
I'm also an IMG and I took the kaplan center prep for 3 months (Jan-Mar 2004), but since I'm also working full time, I only got the enough time to watch all the videos and not enough time to go over every subject in detail in the books. Now, I have read again the kaplan books of physio, path, immunol and biochem, but at this point I haven't memorized or couldn't recite u back the high yield topics. Now I have only 7 weeks before my test and I'm freeking out 'cause I'm only scoring around 43-62% in Q book and Q bank. What would be ur advise?? Review the kaplan books again?? Memorize first aid & do lots of Qs simultaneously?? Would this be enough??? Help please!!!!

  #37

hi,

it is better to do q bank and simultaneously read those topics from text.. working out qs clarifies the topics...

kaplan is good book for revision..go thro FA ..don't try to memorize all facts..try to take the concepts..7 weeks is good time..work as many qs as possible and spend time in reading explanation too..All the best..
