At 24h of life, a newborn infant is noted to have an eye discharge. The baby was born to a 21y who had no prenatal care. Which of the following is most likely disorder responsible for the conjunctival irritation in this newborn?

a. Gonococcal ophthalmia
b. Chlamydial conjunctivitis
c. S. aureus conjunctivitis

No...should be chemical conjunctivitis, due to the erythromycin drops that are put in the infants eyes at birth (especially if mom had STD)

3-5 days > birth = GC
6-10 days > birth = chlamydia

Chemical conjuctivitis occurs in the first 24 hours and it's caused by silever nitrate.
