Q-)To start a complimentary DNA synthesis on a parent strand, DNA polymerases require a primer which is:

a)Protein complex enabling DNA polymerase to access parent DNA strands.
b)Short DNA oligonucleotide synthesized on the parent strand.
c)Short RNA oligonucleotide synthesized on the parent strand.

To initiate synthesis of a complementary DNA on a parent strand...
...All DNA polymerases require a primer: a double-stranded region with a free hydroxyl group on the 3’-end. This is accomplished by a specific enzyme, primase, which synthesizes short stretches of RNA (5 - 60 nucleotides in length).
Using the 3’-hydroxyl group of the RNA primer as the acceptor of the first deoxyribonucleotide, DNA polymerase starts the chain elongation process. The primase molecule is directly linked to DNA helicase forming a multi-subunit protein complex, primosome, on the lagging (not leading) strand. Primase is essential for DNA replication in both in prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. In contrast to DNA-dependent RNA polymerase, primase is resistant to the antibiotic rifampin.
