how do we messure anion gap?
(Na+K)- (HCO+Cl)
or
Na -(HCO3+Cl)

  #2

K+ is not factored into serum anion gap.

but in kaplan notes its
(Na+K)- (HCO3+Cl)

In brs physi, the formula is Na - (Hco3 + Cl), K is mainly intracelluar. Is there any explanantion in kaplan? Thanks.

hi it is
Na -(HCO3+Cl)
becos pottasium extracellular is normally less than 5 meq..it is ignored...

qs relavant to increased anion gap will definitely show a wide anion gap not with in that 5 meq difference..

so eitherway u calculate...no problem...
