One of the purpose for PUBS (percutaneous umbilical blood sampling) is to detect IgM antibody. Why do we need to detect IgM antibody? IgM antibody doesn't across placeta, do they? I don't understand its useness. Thanks in advane!

when the infection crosses transplacentally foetus produces igM so we will know that the foetus is infected for sure, since somtimes igG crosses placenta passively from the mother does`nt give accurate picture of acute infection i hope u got it
