Most common metastatic ca to the bone are :

Breast: Lytic
Lung : I think it is a mix of lytic and blastic
Thyroid: Lytic
Colon
Kid and Adrenals: lytic
Prostate: blastic

Which skeleton (axial or appendicular) is more affected by metastatic lesions and why??

VERTEBRAE DUE BLOOD DRAINAGE THROUGH THEM

Since no one seems Very confident- I am sure of

I)lytic-multiple myeloma, lytic-primary hyperparathyroidism

II)blastic-prostate Ca metastasis

[Ill add as we go along]

I'm sure about prostate, lung , multiple myelomma and mjl's parathyroid (I've not read parathyroid partcularly, but it makes perfect sense). As for breast, different resourses say diff things. (ref: for prostate and MM, any text book will do; for the others, I'll try to find the refs).

These two websites might help!

www.bonetumor.org

Although, these internet sites often says diff things, so not sure which one to trust more. Only consistencies are with prostate and MM

Guys, according to goljan, multiple myeloma, lytic and prostate is almost always blastic. Remember, alkaline phosphatase is released from prostate and it is involved in MAKING bone, hence would be blastic. Hope i could help! smiling face
