anybody knows about getting a fellowship after working as an internist for a period of time?

Asking because considering the following route IM h1b---> employment for GC (several years) ---> fellowship. Don't want to deal with J1.

Few and far between. Many physicians who tried this route are still working as an Internist because they couldn't get the fellowship position that they wanted.

Dear bbb,

thank you very much for your succint answer, I know it's probably a busy period for you now, so I appreciate your input even more.

What exactly is the nature of the difficulties one may encounter in getting a fellowship after practicing as an internist for a number of years? Is it the felloship programs not favoring such applicants? or the individuals not wanting to return to 35K/year?
