It s a certain way a reverend flexes 4th and 5th fingers and extends 2nd and 3rd fingers due to median nerve injury.

MJ,
I have both 2003 and 2004 edition FA. But,
in 2003 it's listed under Ulnar N. and 2004 is listed under Median N.

So I have no clue which one is correct

Unless someone beats me to it/ Ill cross reference it tonight when I leave the library. [Although Im about 90% sure ulnar n. is claw hand and pope blessing is median n.

Benediction hand-flexion of index and 3rd fingers lost at all 3 joints.
adduction opposition and flexion of thumb lost. *******-Median nerve at the elbow or wrist is involved
**HI Yield Gross Anatomy shows pt making an O with his index/thumb fingers

Hi, I've read a few things and I'm a little confused. I think the "Pope's Blessing" and "Benediction Hand" are the same thing.

I'm just wondering if it's a toss-up as to which nerve is the problem...ulnar or median.
Between the things I've read I kinda think that it can be
1) an ulnar lesion if the problem is fully extending the 4th/5th digits
or
2) a median lesion if the problem is flexing the 1st/2nd digits

...does that make sense to anyone else?

I guess FA is wrong. The lesion is on:

Ulnar nerve.

Inter_doc Just try to fold your 5 finger and if you see the 4 also bend this is like Blessing, they put some names also they said CLAWHAND.

Ulnar nerve injuries at the elbow or axila may be caused by a fracture of the medial epicondyle of the Humerus.

Also ulnar nerve injury at the wrist may be caused by a slashing of the wrist.
