Kaplan Qbank USMLE

First of all,u r absolutely right- that you chosed usmleworld q-bank and you r right too -that this is difficult.
But this is not only source to assess your knowledge, but a teaching source too.So you learn new things.
I also learnt many new things from there, and I also started from 50-60% average ,but later i made better.. so at the end i reached total 70% in this q-bank.
These days my 2 friends study from this q-bank too, they reach ~50-60% too .. - and they have the same feeling as you have,as i had .. but i trusted the USMLEWORLD statistics - as they told:
"one who makes 50-60% in their q-bank,scores in the exam >85".
But dont forget, this is the last source -which i studied from. Before that, I made q-books(as you can see from the messages above).
In general, you should know - as many MCQs you make - as much you cover the "holes" ,i.e- you 'll face less doubtful questions.

good luck!

Hey doods. Thanks for the info. Cge i'll start on those books ASAP. Are you done with everything? Did you encounter any problems? Any advice?

Hmm. As I said, the exam construction was harder, but the content was easier. My tip: practice really reading fast! For step 1 I had around 10 minutes extra time per block but for step 2 I had barely a minute to spare.

I was supposed to read Blueprints for IM, Pedia, Psych, OB. But since the books here in the US are expensive, I had to do some budgeting. My solution - I read Swanson's Family Practice Review instead. Swansons is quite long, took me 2 weeks to finish it (almost 700 pages).

I cant guarantee any good score, but since you had a great score in step 1, im sure you'll do well with what I've read. I got 94 in step 1. Got a 99 in step 2.

Good luck! again, practice reading fast!!!

by the way, if your into the 2005 match i suggest you apply for CS asap. slots are running out like hell. if you've already done so, very good. smiling face

hello.

well it worked for me. I read these books since I wanted to get it over with. I wanted short exam preparation. Prepared for 2 months 1 week. Got 99. But remember, I did Full time study, around 10 hours per day.

Good luck ICU!

what is the minimum score to pass isn step 2 Ck?
98/242 means what?
Thanks

  #36

For Dr_kholioo : you have enough time for study (5 months) so go and study.

For Rafaoli: minimum 75/182
98/242 is a great-great score( you can see how many "congrats" are here, so I don't understand your question).

  #37

For Rafaoli:

242 stands for the persons actual score. That is, 242 out of a possible 350 questions.

98 stands for the score (242) after it is subjected to the curve. Think standard deviation of 21 with a mean of 215. 75 means you pass. 98 is a very very good score. (>2 standard deviations above the mean)

Well, I am the one who said that you should study what you hate the most. But I am a girl, not a guy.
Fetus, you did a good job. Now you must do as well on step one.
Do all q - bank from Kaplan. It is not as diverse as actual exam, but is good.
And you MUST have Goljan lectures, high yield, and lecture notes. This is the bast pathology review. And not only pathology. I wish there was something as good for step 2.
Do genetics well - a lot of it was there. Transgenic animals - I still do not know what could be a good source for it.

What sources did you use for step2?

khrys,

how are you? did you get your score for STEP 1 yet?

Good luck in STEP 2!!!!!!
