Toxic levels of unbound iron promotes free radical formation in cells, resulting in membrane lipid peroxidation and cellular injury. Basicaly you holes in membranes.

iron toxicity is due to Fenthion reaction releasing free oxiradicals, injury to motochondria and other organelle
