Hi BBB,

I've read some of your earlier replies and found them to be very helpful and as a result I thought I pose a question to you that really has not been answered well in the past.

I am a rising 4th year in the US interested in GI. I have board scores of on step 1 and haven't taken step 2 yet but am top 30 of my class. I have published 1 paper and 3 abstracts and will be doing GI researh with the hope of publishing. My question is 2 fold.

1. My interest lies in Univ. of Chicago and Northwestern (leaning towards UC) and since both are competitive programs what do you think my chances are of being competitve there?

2. GI being as competitive (600 applicants at 2 spots at my current school) do you think it is better to go to a less reputable program and try to stand out or go to a more rigorous program knowing that everybody is going to be excellent there.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to answer my question.

I cannot begin to get program specific. I try to be more generic in my answers as I do wish to remain anonymous regarding my knowledge of certain programs and locations as I try to help. Those are very competitive programs - with high scores, why not try.

As long as the end result is high quality training, which many less known institutions have, does it matter?

Good luck!
