I'm little bit confused what drug I should chose for the treatment of atypical depression - MAO ( but has lots of dietary restriction) or SSRI?
Please, help!

ssri better because of less side effects .
both have equal efficacy

In the test I would choose SSRI.....
Don't choose TCA that's for sure.....and MAO are actually the best in the group studied to treat Atypical depression but SSRI is the choice for their low side effect profile....
If none of the SSRI are there....then choose MAO....
But the most important thing about Atypical depression wld be its features of reactive affect, hypersomnia (TCA are sedatives), hyperphagia, weight gain

Out of all the variants of depression that are to be known in a some detail i think only the postpartum depressive disorders. would qualify ....
the rest i think u just need to know little details about them. like features...how to recognize them that 's it.....

MAOI IS DOC

Thanx ... grin grin grin

Ur reply was rather too affirmative ... don't think it helps anyone here...hehe
We all know that u and many of us have read in many places that MAO are DOC ....but.....
we have read elsewhere that SSRI are good and should be given for the side effect profile .....

So that is why basically we have this discussion ...
