There is not much of a difference between categorical internal medicine and primary care. However, if you are looking to subspecialize after medicine (e.g. Cardiology, Rheumatology, Gastro, Hem, Onc, and all those other ologies), then stick with the the Categorical Internal Medicine Programs.
What I can do after Med.PRELIMINARY program? (which is 1 year, and I can't get my license right after this program). Should I apply for the match next year after preliminary? Where can I apply after Medicine preliminary - to Internal Med. or to other subspecialties or to Family practice program? After a Preliminary year, you can enter Derm, Radiology, Neurology, Anesthesia. Many prliminary programs will not accept candidates if they do not have a position for the following year.
May be there are some sites where I can get this information? Most of this information is on line - ECFMG, ERAS, NRMP, etc. Good luck
