CHRONIC GRANULOMATOUS DISEASE). I KNOW THIS OCCURE B/C OF DEF OF NADPH OXIDASE. I DON'T UNDERSTAND THE FURTHER INFORMATION WHICH IS IN MICRO KAPALAN REGARDING CATALASE +VE AND CATALASE -VE. CAN ANY BODY EXPLAIN ME WITH EXPLANATION. THANX. :roll:

normally NADPH oxidase produces free radicals (superoxide ) which r converted to H2O2 by superoxide dismutase. myeloperoxidase H2O2 + Cl- ----------------> HOCl(free radical) which kills bacteria. catalase H2O2------------------>H2O in CGd, H2O2 free radicals r not produced by neutrophils, so myeloperoxidase halide system fails. in case of infection with catalase +ve organisms like staph , H2O2 produced by bacteria is destroyed by catalase. Bcoz neutrophils cant produce H2O2, bacteria r engulfed but not killed by neutrophils. catalse negative organisms like strepto do not produce catalase so H2O2 produced by bacteria is not converted to H2O. Though neutrophils do not produce H2O2 by themselves but ingest n kill these organisms bcoz myeloperoxidase converts H2O2 (bacterial) and Cl- to HOCl.. i hope i dint confuse u further.......

hello mash. i m little bit confused with your reply. can u tell me one more thing that u mention that in CGD, neutrophils r not producing H2O2 free radicals which r toxic for catalase+ve organisms, and so on b/c myeloperoxidase halide system fails. and again u mention that H2O2 is produced by bacteria,they produce H2O2by the same system(i-e myeloperoxidase halide system)or any other system. any way thanx for explaining me all this. i will wait for your reply b/c there is no such explanation in kapalan.
