Which of the following lipoproteins would contribute to a measurement of plasma cholesterol in a normal person following a 12-h fast?
--Very-low-density lipoproteins

--High-density lipoproteins
---Chylomicrons
---Chylomicron remnants
---Adipocyte lipid droplets

  #2

VLDL and HDL (chylomicrons should not be present after the fast).

  #3

chylomicron remnants

Hmm, I suppose so. Chylomicron remnants shouldn't be an significant contributor of cholesterol, would it? (Though it still would contribute).

  #5

Answer is
HDL
You were right guys it can't be chylomicrons .But my confusion is why not VLDL.

Any explanations........

  #6

No clue whatsoever. ^_^ It could just be an error, because VLDL is an important contributor of cholesterol.

  #7

I think the key is 12 hours. At this point you have not begun to break down body fat and you will not make VLDL with triacylglycerol (either from food or from lipolysis). HDL is the only circulating component of cholesterol that should be present (from this list...LDL would of course also be present).

If it were >2 days or so, VLDL would be present, as that is how the TAG circulates, after lipolysis.

Thanks Idioiopathic.

That cud be the explanation.

How long the fast shud be to start lipolysis?

Coz, as far as i remember ,glycogen stores are for 12 hours.May be I m mistaken.

  #9

12-24 hours of glycogen. I think that is why they made it 12 hours exactly. If it had been 15 hours, you would start to see both, I think. 6 hours would be way too soon. 12 hours is just right.
