This question has more likely been asked....but, good to review. What are the differences btw osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis? 8)

The main ones: OA - PIP/DIP joint involvement, joint destruction seen radiographically, morning stiffness gone <1 hour after waking. RA - MCP/PIP joint involvement, pannus formation, IgM anti-IgG antibodies in synovial fluid, morning stiffness that lasts >1 hour after waking, ulnar deviation, carpal tunnel syndrome. There are, of course, many others...

Great! Also, with RA there is systemic system not found with OA. Namely, fever, fatigue, percarditis, and pleuritis. Is OA symetrical like RA? What type of collagen gets damaged in OA?

isnt cartilage type II? i think it is type II collagen...there can be bilateral findings with OA, but I dont think it is the rule, like it is with RA.

Cartilage {hydroxyproline is important stabilizer} I-skin bone tendon cornea vessels II-intervertebral disk,**Cartilage, vitreous body II-fetal skin,vessels IV-basement membrane With Rheumatoid think of it as being more symmetric as Idiopathic says if its just one joint think more of Osteo also with Osteo- bony sclerosis ,subchondral sclerosis, osteophytes With Rheumatoid "Swan neck deformity"

that is right idiopathic....type II good going mjl1717....just for note the "swan neck deformity" is also called subluxation...just for everyones information. great!!! :lol:
