Hi, IAm looking for some good advice. I frequently visit this forum and notice that there are many intelligent and most of all friendly and helpful doctors willing to help. Iam currently in a dilemma. Iam working full time and studying. I work in research,my exam is in about five months and just starting. THis my second attempt . My job is becoming more stressful and emotionally draining which seems to be bothering my studying after work, My spouse has offered to help by financially carrying the burden of our expenses for the next five months so I can study in peace, Yet first I donot know if After five months I will find another job, secondly I have been told that for residency being in research and having a job related to medicine is helpful. IAm truely undecided. I know this is more of a personal question , but i need some advice. THanks

If a full work schedule is too much to handle then you can also do Part-time.Also you can take a question book with you to work and do questions during the small breaks or chances you get at work.....I used to do this when I was doing my internship and had to give some exams.I would take my book to the OPD and sometimes to the OT and study whenever I got a chance. Showing some work expereince will surely be an added bonus but I think the thing that stands out at the end of the day is the USMLE marks.....so your first priority I think should be to achieve the best marks you can and the second priority goes to things which support your application eg.publication, work expereince etc..

I'm also full time working in research. I know what you mean: some times is getting very busy, other time is quieter. Try not to get too angry when don’t get to study as much as you would like. I usually get upset just thinking that I have to work, I found this more tiring that the work it self. I agree with Malaysian: have a book with you at work. You’ll be surprised how much you can do (5 min here, 5 min there, and so on) Just hang in there! Regards

thank you malaysian and macrophage for the advice. I guess sometimes I just get overwhelmed, and temporarily want to drop everything. Yet I know Iam not alone and it is good to have encouraging response.
