The most important e/cel urinary buffer is: A. ATP B. proteins C. HCO3 D. H2PO4 The pk of CO2/HCO3- buffer pair is 6,1. What are the relative concentration of CO2 and HCO3- in blood sample that has pH of 7,1? Please explain.

H2PO4 is the most important urinary buffer. It has a favourable pKa. By the Henderson-Hasselbalch equation, pH = pKa + log [HCO3-]/[CO2]. Therefore, 10^(7.1-6.1) = [HCO3-]/[CO2], and so the ratio is 10, with ten times more HCO3- than CO2.

I beg to differ .The normal ph of urine is 4.6 to 8 with a av of 6.0 .the pk of bicarbonate buffer is 6.1 and that of phosphate is 6.8 so bicarbonate is more imp

po4 is the 1st to be used contributes to 33 % of neutralization.and is titrable its more important.only after po4 is used up that hco3 is used

Isn't bicarbonate the first one to be used up since its pKa is the closest? On the other hand, I believe that the phosphate buffer is the most important since it predominates in a quantitative sense (as the bulk of HCO3- is reabsorbed anyways in the PCT).

quantitatively most imp is phosphate buffer, then is ammonia buffer.

i agree, the most important is PO buffer, just coz the amount of Phospate lingering around in body.
