A 33-year-old female with a hx of ulcerative colitis is concerned about her risk of colon cancer. She asks about the association b/w her disease and colon ca. You explain to her that, compared to general population, she is at a greater risk for which of the following:

A. Developing ca from an adenomatous polyp
B. Suffering from multiple colon ca
C. Having left-sided colon ca
D. Developing colon ca later in life
E. Having benign forms of colon ca

Colon ca risk is increased in pt-s with UC. Duration and extent of the disease are important. Pancolitis and rt-sided colitis increased risk more then lt-sided colitis and proctitis.

SPORADIC: ASSOCIATED WITH UC:

mean age 60s 30s

multiple colon ca 3-5% 12%

premalignant
state adematous polyps dysplasia

location lt-sided predominant more uniformly distribu-
ted

anaplastic ca less common more common
