whats the difference in decerebrate and decorticate rigidity? where is the lesion in the two?

I believe the decorticate rigidity would arise from a supratentorial lesion affecting descending motor neuron control, while the decerebrate would result from a lesion in the brainstem. The former is characterized by flexion of the upper extremities and extension of the lower extremities, and the latter has extension for all extremities.

just think of the rubro-spibal tract... it is Red nucleus that is responsible for arm flexion. So if lesion above Red nuc, then flexion still intact...brain stem still OK..coz Red n. is b/w sup and inf colliculi in Mid brain... If lesion below that, then all extension occurs..no oppposition... really bad prognosis.
