A 34Y/O female, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Stool bloody and associated with urgency and noctunal bowel movements. T 38.4C. PE Mild periumbilical and LLQ tenderness. Which of the following agents is most likely cause? 1. Campylobacter jejuni 2. Toxigenic E-coli The answer chooses 1. Why not Toxigenic E-coli? (bloody stool as well).

this is right.. the answer can not be ETEC.If the stool is bloody then it has to be some invasive organism and ETEC is not invasive. Following are invasive though: -campylobacter -Shigella -Salmonella -EIEC (entero invasive E. coli) And also if there is no travel history then ETEC is less likely to be the answer... so without a travel history camylobacter is anyway very common than ETEC. And then never forget the 'BLOOD IN THE STOOLS'!!!
