Congratulations! That's a very good score. It means that you have answered 235 questions correctly?

Anybody please suggest me..... Can I skip reading chromosomal abnormalities? I have Kaplan review books (2 volumes) and this is a detailed topic in this book. I am studying from Kaplans Intense Prep Lecture notes ( whenever I dont understand any topic I open review books). In intense prep notes there is no topic for chromosomal abnormalities. Can anyone suggest me about skipping chromosomal abnormalities (like deletion, insertion, translocation, non disjunction etc) and another chapter of Linkage from reivew book, and just read whatever in intense prep and FA???? Please advice me! Thanks.

It took me forever to get ready for step 1. I started Kaplan on Aug.26, 2003. I think I finished all video lectures by November. Then I read all Kaplan's books at list 2 more times, Biochemistry and Pharm - 3 times. I had some breaks in my schedule (X-mas, etc.) I have a 6years old kid, so I have to spend some time with her. That's why it took so long. Mostly, I studied 6-8 hours every day, except those days when I did not study at all.

Right after the exam I felt like I was working physically all day. I was very tired. I did not make too many stupid mistakes, but there were Qs, I had to guess about. Some Qs were so easy, that I had to read them twice - could not believe that they really would ask something so simple. Know your genetics well, they love it. A lot of behavioral science and ethics. I did not feel that I passed. I had horrible dreams for a week. And I even tried to read material - just in case I did not pass, I would not forget material.

Do not skip any ginetic topics! Plus, in the end of Kaplan Biochemistry lecture notes there is a chapter with all topics you want to skip. There is one principle to successful study: if you hate the material you read, it means you do not know it well, study it till you love it. It will save you. Hope it helps!

Thanks Khrys for your sincere advice. You are very right, actually I hate those topics because i am bad in this subject. It is really a difficult subject. Any ways I have read all topics now and feeling it is not that bad! I am studying from kaplans intense prep notes, do you think they are good?

The Board Simulator Series is an excellent review material. It consist of 5 books divided into: 3 books on different organ systems, 1 book on normal and abnormal processes, and another about disease processes. So you can see, it is structured exactly as the MLE, they tried compartmentalizing the review based on organ systems and not based on subject. They even had an ingenious way of integrating behavioral science within the systems approach review. As far as molecular biology, genetics, immuno are concerned, not studying them is like signing your own death certificate, you will surely fail; it's a sealed deal. I may not be the best adviser in the world but I'm pretty sure all who took the exam will agree that these are highly tested topics. I'm still waiting for my score and it's killing me. Like Khrys, I really don't know if I pass or not. I do hope I get the same score as she did . I'll let you ALL know if I pass, but if you hear nothing from me after 4 weeks, it means I failed and probably crying in one corner of my room, thumb sucking, and probably wet my bed (is this a clinical vignette?) . See, once you take the MLE, it's pretty hard to remove it out of your system.

Thanks Khrys and Lander for your sincere advice. I posted a reply for your message and I dont know where is it gone! So i am writing you again. You are very right, I hate this subject because i dont know it well. But now I tried to study those topics, and in the end found that it was not that bad. I am studying from KAplans intense prep notes that are very to the point and selected topics. Do you have any idea about these? Thanks again. Best of luck!

You hate them, BECAUSE you do not know them. It is a source of fear for you. When you learn it, you will like it. I hated biochemistry so much, now I like it. I am not sure that I 've seen books you us. I had Kaplan's lecture notes, they are good ONLY WHITH LECTURES.
