They do not line by themselves, but just form part of the cell population that line the respiratory and terminal bronchioles. In the former they represent around 22% of the cell population, while in the later around 11%. And they do not secrete p450, but they have the p450 activity in their cytoplasm. They also contribute to the epithelial cell renewal of the mentioned structures.
