A guy come in to your office complaining of breast development. When asked he says that he is only taking one medication for his hypertension. The only other important finding in the medical history is Addison's Disease. Why was it not a good idea to prescribe the medication he is on currently?

He is probably taking spironolactone, which has gynecomastia as a S/E...it would also contradict the lack of aldosterone associated with Addisons.

The mechanism of spironolactone induced gynecomastia is what? Is it because it has internal estrogen inducing capabilities, not sure though!!

Spironolactone is chemically similar to some sex steroids, and so has some minor hormonal activity.
