Ok, folks. 17 months after I began with Step 1, I find myself here in the Step 3 forum. It's a new place for me, to finally be certified and all. And suddenly I find that I have no idea to go about this. I think this thread will help me learn a lot about what's currently unknown to me, hopefully others may benefit too.
So, to keep it short, where do I start? applying for Step 3, I mean? Do we still receive paper certificates via snail mail? Do I need to wait for something from ECFMG before I can submit my application? And, that's the other qn - what do I need to do to get started with the apps? If I need to go about gathering another bunch of crazy documents, I'm gonna scream!

Hi Paheli,
You need to register at the FSMB site for step 3.
ie after you have your ECFMG certificate issued, which I guess you already have.
Then you have to print the identification form, sign it, get it notarized and send it to the FSMB.
This will take some time....
Then they will mail you saying your scheduling permit is available, and that you can download it form the FSMB site.
and trust me..... this was the easiest part of step 3
After that you just have to study and study and study and only study

Oh, drnaik! A familiar face here!
I haven't recd any certificate or anything. Will I get it in the mail? Or via email?
Where can I get a document notarized in the US?

You can notarize documents from notary public
if you are working in hospital there may be some notary public who does free of charge

you can do Google search around your area for notary public
or I think so if you have bank account in bank they do for their customer

I am ok,
find a UPS store near you.... they have a notary.
The ECFMG certificate is sent via FEDEX
But to apply to step 3 you need to know the date of issue.... which will be uploaded on the OASIS.
and yep I am done with the step 3...
And you wont believe I again wore the same clothes both the days

Thanks for the info, drnaik. So, I need to check in OASIS. Do I have to wait till I receive it before I can apply? or do I only wait to find the date? And please tell me where to start. I know that there's a certificate of identification. What else? I know I'm asking you for short cuts, but I don't have much time. Help please!
Good that you're done with step 3. Any tips for a newbie like me?

Just the date of issue.... Do this quick coz you'll have a waiting time of 3-5 business days before and after sending the form. Thats all you hav eto send... and ofcourse before that you have to pay them
Can you wait for 3 weeks for tips???? I mean I want to wait till I see "pass"

welcome paheli, im studying too girl, so when do u plan to take it? i got 8 weeks and need to get on it soon!! apply asap and then mail in the notarized form from currency exchange,it's a dollar i think, but just send it in asap and then it takes them 10 days to process b4 u get permit from fsmb and then you can select date, best of luck!! i hope the best for all of us taking step 3 in the upcoming months (well in reality i wish everyone the best in everything, but for the immediate testakers, i wish moreso!! :nod

well that's great, but make sure you take it where dates are available bc to take in nov is very soon, it will take minimum 10 day sfor them to process it.. i think dr. naik meant that you need your date of ecfmg certification which we can find ino ur oasis acct.. when you apply for the respective state board for taking step 3 (like connecticut like most people do) on the form they just ask for the date of certification, and meanwhile you do the online part, there is a notarized paper every state requires that you have to mail to fsmb itself, so get both things done in one day, overnight the notarized form to fsmb and then 10 days from that you will get email about scheduling your date, best of luck and lets get this done!
