Hi, I am not participating in the match this year, but because you are ll at the heart of the battle for match, I am sure you can help me. Please tell if the plan I am going to do is possible for the next year match. I want to do residency on h1b in Internal medicine. 1. Step 1 at the end of March 2009 2. Step 2 at the end of July 3. CS at mid September 4. Step 3 at the end of December Please let me know if it is possible in this time manner. Specially if it is possible to get ECFMG certification in early December with CS in Mid September ( I did my credentials before). And is it possible to get H1b without Step 3 in hand at the time of applications? thank you in advance for your time.

Dr. Wish, it is certainly possible. It´s up to you and your ability to concentrate on the studying. I would personally try to be certified by the time of application. And I would do Step 3 by the beginning of the interview season. And if you have some USCE you should be fine. Good luck!

DrWish, If you can schedule and pass your CS earlier (e.g. April/May) then you can definitely get certified by September. Many programs offer interviews to certified applicants only.

I find that whoever can take CS before their second step (be it CK or step one) overall wins a good 3 months on their timeline. My two cents.
