hi guys. can anyone tell me how many points do counselling carry in cis component. is it a must to counsel all pts or only those who r really alcoholics and smokers. what is the best way of closing the pt encounter. i took just abt a min. made sure to ask pt if she/he has any doubts. told them brief plan of workup. culdnt counsell them much..forgot abt diabetes counselling, drug and smoking counselling in 3 cases.awaiting feedback

For smoking, I councelled patients on cutting down smoking and if they had already cut down, I always commended them for doing so. For alcohol, you don't need to counsel patients unless they are drinking more than the recommended amount unless you suspect that they might be addicts. I think your closure is fine. Whenever I had time I would also ask if they understood everything we discussed and shake hands, smile, thank them and leave.
