hi guys, dissociative fugue might be difficult to diagnose in real life, but step 1 usmle is not real life, so they will give you some clues. they have to, otherwise, no one will be able to recognize it. it is basically a dissociative disease. following stressful life event (not always), person forgets everything, travels, and may assume another identity. the key is pt's unawareness of anything from the past. so, if on the exam, you have a case about a person who has no idea how he/she got there, also may be confused about identity, wandering on the streets with plane (train, bus, etc.) ticket in the pocket (telling you that patient has travelled) - that's dissociative fugue right there. i don't mean to say the case will be exactly like that, but some recognizable clues will be presented to you. good luck to all!
