dear all,

i took my exam 2 days ago, want to share my experience

test date- sept 25th

my back ground- working full time with domestic responsibilities and all that

prep time- 9 months

material used- step up to medicine
blue prints for paeds&obs gyn
kaplan for surgery
kaplan and first aid for psychiatry clerk ship by latha stead for psych

acknowledgements- big thanks to sos who gave me lot of moral support when i was really depressed, and thanks to night flight and hcm 11 for advicing me on test taking strategies and time manage ment, and night flight for encouraging words about the exam, and every body else who clarified my doubts and gave me advice.

my u world score- did twice

first time did with a study partner, she did some tests and i did some we revised each others tests sothat score wont represent my score.

second time i did my self ,timed mixed q bank 90% completed before exam, scored 70%correct, and 84 percentile over all

nbme form 2 two and half months before the realtest ,scored 440.

usmle sample cd- 2days before test - 80%, 80%,65% , 4/5 marks in audio visual sequntial q s block

the test- took it in new format, the test i got is an assortment of short and long qs , test difficulty is like nbme, some q are very striaght forward just click an d go some you can analyse /think and answer some qs and i dont have a clue what they are talking about, but there are lot of common things and easy qs if you dont miss them i think you can gain some marks. time was just sufficient, in my last but one block iwas so disoriented and hypoglycemic i just went blank , ialmost ran out of time , idont know what i was clicking there, but my last block went well it was easy many striaght qs, over all i would say its doable test, i took breaks like 5, 5,5,15,10,10,10, i took glucan d, high energy milk drinks, cake slices, peanut and sugar bars, redbulls, between breaks i took some water , glucose, then high energy drinks on the way to bath room to save some time, last blocks i took redbull to keep me alert be cause i was down by then, my test time was at 9 am , but i was before the center at 7.30 am so they allowed me 8am it self, test was like motly medicine, few ecgs and qs on them likehow doyou manage this like that , 2 qs murmurs, cardio qs are easy, video qs are about child devolepment are easy too you can answer, rest is a equal distribution of ob and gynmostly bleeds fetal disress, premature labour like that, paed, and psych i found psych are picky no striaght forward, few trauma qs, so that was how my test was, from to marrow on wards i am going back to work, just waiting for the result to see how my fate will ,be, please pray for me,

guys i want to ask you all, i read that target date for score reporting for people who took test from mid august to sept ending will be october 8th, that means i will get my score on oct 8th or the usual 3 weeks some body please clarify,

and i.wish good luck for all those who are taking exam.

First thank you for your comments on me!

This is a real , honest unbiased post about the exam .When I read it I feel it was my exam which I took a couple of months ago .

And from what you 've written here I imply you're going to get a descent score . This is the result of your effort and also your realistic expectation of the exam before the real exam .

GL !

all the best srita. you will fare great !!!

one suggestion for future test-takers. DO NOT CONSUME PURE GLUCOSE. it results in rebound hypoglycemia.

high glucose -> insulin -> hypoglycemia unless you have slow release carbs in your tummy already.

have a moderately heavy breakfast at least 1-2 h before the exam and then keep slow release carb foods and maybe a can of energy drinks like redbull or monster. again consuming too much of redbull in the beginning of the exam will make you jittery by the last block.

and above all the best thing is good 7-8h sleep the night before. nothing beats that!!!!!

Great post.

I called Ecfmg about the score reporting and it will take the usual 3 weeks (they claim 3 to 6 weeks but they told me there will be no delay, so in actuality it should be 3 weeks....The Oct 8th date was for those who took the exam mid August)

Congrats on taking it!.....Mine is in 2 weeks and then hopefully I'll be certified
