Dear Friends I graduated in 1995
Finished residency in Fam.Practice. But It was not my dream speciality.
I wanted to be paediatritian. But in our coutry, any female Doc who wish to get Residency other than Fam.Practice have to offer much MORE! or have GOOD relationships.
I am from a poor family and thats why my boss(65) years offered me to be his mistress if I want to continue my study. He started to call me often to his office and tried to kiss me many times. As I refused to do that, he fired me.
Its almost the same in every hospital in Europe and Germany.

I am prepairing for step 1 and hope to get either Paediatrics or Internal Med.
need some advise about how long and what to read.

And how to get H1 visa.
I also want to ask about best speciality to get H1.even basic science will be OK.

What country are you from??If your country is a member of EU you should have a better opportunity in a EU country though. The setup in your hospital sounds pathetic.....is what you say for real....or is this some sort of joke?Anyhow if you're keen on sitting for step 1 the recommended books are in the 'Books' section. You may also want to look at the books being adviced by those who gave the exam and passed it.If you need H1 visa you will need go give Step 1,2 and 3.I'm not sure about the speciality in accordance to the visa status. However chances are better to get a speciality of your preference if you have good USMLE scores. As in regards to time of preparation......thats very subjective as some take only 3 months to prepare while others upto 6months.....study at your pace and give the exam when you're ready....average is 3-4months though.

Thank you malaysian
What I told you is true not a joke. And I was very distressed after that.
Yes I am from EU but originally from middle East. England accept us but only to work as GP in Primary Care Office. If you want to enter a Residency Program theres a big competition and alot of discrimination.
A lot of physician left the country. The payment is also unfair.

To get your H1B visa, you will have to take Steps 1, 2, and 3 - have completed your certification, be accepted into a residency and obtained appropriate licensure for the state that you will work in.....

I was not aware of UK being very competitive.....I assumed people with EU rights had better chances there than any other foreigner since alot of my classmates gave the PLAB and are doing their residency there and there aren't even from the EU and so EU people would have an easier time in getting into residency there. In regards to the pay in UK its about 24,000pounds a year which is quite good.
My apologies for questioning the authenticity of the information you gave me regarding the hospital you used to work in.Its just that it was a bit hard to digest that, as I've never come across such a situation. But nevertheless you made a bold and applaudable stand.I hope all the best for you.....did you manage to get the recommended book list?
