Hi,

Finally here for my last USMLE!
But considering I'm totally pre-occupied with the interview season it's been difficult to figure out a good plan so far.
I havent even fixed a date yet but hopefully will be taking the exam some time in early November...I dont know if I can apply at this time and find a late October date? I'd much prefer that.
As far as the plan goes I only have a rough idea at present...

One, I'll be spending 3-4 weeks preparing for the exam.
Two, I'll do 2 question banks; one is UW and the other one probably Kaplan, but i'll keep UW for last and would like to keep it going as close to the exam day as possible.
Three, I dont want to spend a lot of time going through books, so I'm looking for a short and precise text which has enough important facts so that I'm not caught unawares on exam day. But really as little time on the books as possible; just brush up on the facts, dont think I have a lot of problems with concepts at this point in time.
Also will be taking the NBME about a week from the exam; so that I know where I stand and put in strong work on weaknesses it shows up.
Also need to be thoroughly acquainted with the software, so would need to go through stuff the USMLE guys send you.
I'll be probably start out with the Kaplan Qbank...how many questions does it have? 1000? If that's the number I hope to finish it over the next 5 days starting probably from today, if not today then definitely from tomorrow. That should be like a 100 questions a day which is pretty much manageable I guess. Although I'm not sure at this time but I'll probably supplement it with a short text wherever needed.

Hmmm....I guess that's it for now.
I'm heading over to the Kaplan website to see how much the Qbank costs.
Will keep on updating.

Good luck all!smiling face

nodhi Genbot, I want to stop by to wish you luck for embarking on your last journey, then would like to tell things that you already know..here it goes...

step 3 as much as i've known is a different ballgame alltogether, it wants to test how practical are you, how good a general practitioner you are, how well you can think of common and simple things. It totally doesnt expect you to crack medical mysteries, but just tests you on how well you know diseases in American population.

So you are absolutely right when you think spending time on lot of theory will be waste,This all I typed to let you know that the plan you charted out is flawless and yet again you are a genius,TAKE CARE & good luck once againnod

I think you are set for success, genbot. Step 3 was the test I studiest for in the least amount of time. I think Crush is worth reading and the ccs part of FA helped me.

If you are going to able to schedule for October or not depends on the Prometric you want to go to. In my case, I was not able to have a close date like you want, but it was around July, maybe that's why.

Good luck!

Arlete!: I think yes, Crush and FA would be the ones I'll use as my text material. About the dates...haven't really checked yet. Hopefully will get a close one. Also hoping to catch you there on the 99!grin

From tomorrow then, on with my Step3 prep!

hey i'm in on the plan as well, i seriously have ot get buckled down and i have a date, so likely i should get on to getting my banks as well..im using premier review for the sole fact i dont want to use many multiple sources, so that is what i'm reading and reviewing, as well as doing more questions on a regular basis.. as well as i should apply within this week and then get more focusd.. any advice diligent people on getting started for step 3, like questions first and then read these notes? or just read and do questions.. thanks!

Hi all,

Restarted with my prep a coupla days back. Have the exam on Nov 6th. Not a lot of time...yes...but i'm hoping it all works out.
Started with the Kaplan Qbank which I hope to finish by the 28th of this month...followed by Uworld and FA, and anything else I can lay my hands on.

So far doing ok on the Qbank...scoring in the mid 70s.

Will be updating regularly now.

Bye.

Couldn't wait to get myself UWorld...wanted to get a taste of it as soon as possible...got my first block done...did well...72%...feel a lot more comfortable now with my plan.

I still need to finish Kaplan Qbank by 28th of this month coz thats how long the subscription lasts...almost 75% left to do.

No time to waste now...on with the prep!!!

you are doing well as usual.

so when you applied in september, you could get earliest date as november?

Thanks milee! How's it going with you?

I applied in the second week of October and only got to fix a date around 18/19 October.
So obviously getting an early date is not a problem with Step3.

Good luck!smiling face

Also i'm ruing the fact that I did not take my Step3 earlier when I had a chance...helps with getting a few more IVs I feel, especially with the community programs...although I havent applied to a whole lot of community progs...another mistake I guess. But now hope to have the Step3 result by end of Nov and hopefully if some spots open up programs might have a better CV to look at.raised eyebrow

Good luck to us!smiling face
