FM is not harder than IM IM is more competetive . it seems easier to get into residency in IM because more number of seats in IM as compare to FM.

most FM programs prefer US grads and citizens,GC holders. most FM programs dont sponser visas.(so less chances)

what I think is that USCE and GC/Citizen are the biggest things for FM. IM gives more weigh to scores.

I checked the statistics from previous years matching results, only 10% of IMG in FM field, while 30% in IM field.

I think most fp programs look for the REAL interest in fp, which most of IMGs dont have! many imgs apply to fp as a backup, fp programs might be receiving largest number of applications.so its a matter of luck there

thats bcz most IMGs prefer IM. which has many subspecialty options thereafter.
Our mentality as IMGs is filled with the ideas of becoming subspecialist.
I wod say F.M. is easier but apply carefully and select the programs nicely ___________________ In God I trust .....
