RQ = production of CO2/ O2 utitlization
Its depends upon what sort of nutrient is being utilized in the body ,If the nutrient is
Carbohyrate ,then it is 1
Fats ,then it is 0.7
Proteins ,then it is 0.8
For example
Immediately after meals RQ = 1 ,it means it is only carbohydrates which are being utilized in the body
10 hrs after meals ,RQ =0.7 it means now only fats being utilized
In uncontrolled DM ,RQ = 0.7
