its ok as long as the PD and staff does not come to know about. ( embarrassing situation)
Usually they would not come to know about. they dont cross check with other departments what kind and which candidates are they getting.
Its safe, keep interview dates (if you get one) at days apart ! or may be weeks, so that they dont catch u in the hallway, ohh you were here for IM interview last week with us , werent you?

Thanks for the reply inkspot. I dont think I will get called to both, I'd be thankful if I get called by any1. My fear is if they find out I may be rejected by both programs.
