whats the concept of mean systemic pressure. i understand what brs has said that its a hypothetic pressure that equals atrail pressure when whole of circulation is stopped and pressure throughout the cvs is the same. my query is that: why it is measured in the atria when pressured is same throughoout cvs? why not in the vessels? whats the significanc eof this concept? u c every concept has some practical signifucance but i couldnt find any for this concept.

Measuring the pressure in the atria when the heart stops would give you a composite picture of the systemic pressure forcing blood through the circulation, because everything from the body ends up back at the right atrium. It is actually practical to refer to this concept measured this way, whereas imagining each indivdul arteriole and artery pressure is not very realistic. I just visualize it like this: everything that comes out the left ventricle either gets third-spaced or goes to the right atrium. If you are third spacing lots of fluid (i.e. edema), then your systemic filling pressure is low, which actually makes sense, since it depicts your heart not working as efficiently as it should be (sometimes due to an outside influence). This may be off, but this is how I think about this issue.
