hi! i have never been a fan of numbers and all the calculations that it entails so i have a problem dealing with biostatistics.

my step 1 was okay but i think i could have done better if i didn't freeze up encountering these biostat questions!

i tried to do some pencil-pushing, a little arithmetic here and there, i listed all the formulae and made a big effort understanding the concepts. and i did understand them well.

however, when faced with an actual question, my mind goes into a fuzz and all the things that i studied for just go "pffft!".

i'm worried that this fear would affect my step 2 biostat/prev med performance if i remain in this state.

i know calculations in the exam are simple but, man, i really get fidgety with them. any help? i don't want it to be my waterloo! thanks smiling face

It is because you have not understood biostats well ,

Calculations are no big deal.

nightflight, i DO understand them well and am able to answer the sample questions in kap notes with ease, but with the uworld practice questions (timed mode) and in the actual exam, i get really anxious.

anyway, thanks for posting smiling face

but that's a great insight (that i may not have fully understood the concepts). since i probably have a poor understanding of biostatistics, is there a textbook that you can recommend?

i may have to sit down again and master the basics. thank you for your time smiling face

kaplan is very good , And FA for biostat is also good ,

However considering the small number of Qs , don't spend too much time.

okay. thank you for your patience, nightflight1945. very helpful.

(although sometimes you could get brutally frank with your opinion but that's okay grin sometimes all that i need is the TRUTH to reach my goals--perhaps i really should master the basics! so THANK YOU for that reality check, in all sinceritywink)

i'll go ace that biostat portion of the ck! wink

all the best to you !
