A previously healthy 30 yo woman has had a painless lump in her neck for 2 days. Her mother was Rx for a thyroid cancer at age 35. Her sister is 28 and had an increased serum calcitonin but no thyroid nodule. Exam shows a palpable thyroid nodule. Her calcitonin level is increased. Which of the following diagnose should excluded prior to surgical treatment of the thyroid gland ?

A. adrenalcortical carcinoma

B. Lung cancer

C. Ovarian carcinoma

D. Parathyroid carcinoma

E.Pheo

It is pheochromocytoma option E which must be excluded because of hazards of pheochromocytoma

Follow up question
can that patient might have a MEN asoc? if yes which one?
