HCO3 has few indications : 1-In case of severe acidosis with blood PH below 7.1 it can be given however the efficacy is still controvarsial 2-In children in DKA although sometimes used , it increases the risk of cerebral edema 3-The most useful indication is in intoxication : a-TCA intoxication , NaHco3 acts as an antagonist of TCA on heart muscle and is the drug of choice for arrythmia prevention in this case 2b.In intoxication with ASA , Barbiturates and ,.... it is used to induce alkaline diuresis
